INTERNATIONAL AID WITH UNIVERSAL PURPOSE

Mozaic partner Pat Bradley travels the world to help those in need

ST. LOUIS, March 31, 2009 – For most of Mozaic founding partner Pat Bradley’s career in the graphic arts industry, he has devoted his time away from work to helping people in some of the least accessible and most dangerous places in the world.

Bradley established International Crisis Aid (ICA), a non-profit organization providing humanitarian aid in "no-go" zones – places that are either too treacherous or difficult to reach – after witnessing "unimaginable poverty" on a trip to Sudan in 2000.

"It was the first time in my life I saw people who had literally nothing," says Bradley of that first Sudan trip.

In the last nine years ICA has served millions of meals to the starving and malnourished, provided much-needed medical care and prescriptions to thousands of the sick and offered safe homes for children orphaned by HIV. Despite such great accomplishments, Bradley’s measure of success remains simple: helping as many people as he can.

Seeing the "red light" district in Cambodia in 2006 moved Bradley to extend ICA’s mission to help child victims of sex-trafficking, including opening and operating safe homes in Ethiopia and Cambodia. At ICA safe homes, girls as young as four receive education, rehabilitation and counseling. The organization’s goal is to rehabilitate 10,000 girls in the next six years.

Bradley’s organization is devoted to rescuing children from sex trafficking in the United States as well as abroad. This year, ICA plans to open two homes in St. Louis and Atlanta for American victims of forced prostitution. The new homes will attempt to fill a desperate void for thousands of American girls believed to be currently enslaved in the sex trade.

While many groups in the US devote themselves to advocacy and awareness about sex-trafficking, very few offer direct, tangible aid to victims. There are no federally-funded programs to house or care for American sex-trafficking survivors. Bradley notes that these girls are frequently prosecuted for the very crimes of which they are victims.

In addition to securing funding for the new group homes in St. Louis and Atlanta, Bradley is currently planning a trip to Ethiopia for April 2009 to continue mission work. For more information about International Crisis Aid, visit http://crisisaid.org/.
